So, Im required to blog for English class again. I had this instructor once already so the first blog assignment isn't a big deal for me: find two blogs and then blog about them. So here goes.....
The first blog I found is titled madness: tales of an emergency room nurse. I plan on becoming a doctor and and trying to decide whether or not to focus on pediatric orthopedics or ER trauma medicine. This blog is a personal account of what goes on in this nurses life. Although some posts have nothing to do with the workplace, I still find it interesting. This blog gives a comical veiw on some of the things that go on in an ER but, though it is funny, I know from my father that these types of accounts are real. One I found extremely entertaining pertained to a patient that came in for constipation and the nurses tried to "run and hide" so they did not have to deal with it. I can remember my own father telling me a very similar story not long ago. Although working in an ER can be tedious it is nice to see that, though some situations do not need to be made light of, it can still happen. In reading this blog I can see some of the more mundane tasks this nurse has to do, but can tell that the work still has meaning to this nurse. Though I will not be a nurse, I can kind of see what Id go through on a daily basis.
The second blog I found, Gruntdoc, is more focused on medical posts, though not without its own quirks. This blog gives a little better look into an Emergency Room and things that go on in it along with articles about new research and such. I found this blog to be entertainingly informative. Though I was already leaning toward ER medicine this blog increased my interest. For example, the entry entitled It took a trainee... mixes something as serious as a thoracotomy with humor. I tend to make serious situations more managable with humor. This made me realize that I would be able to handle to stress and difficulties of an ER because of this trait. Stress was the whole reason I was worried about going into ER med. This blogger also takes articles and other mecial topics and gives his personal opinion about them. It gives a "real-life" spin on things that you may not normally think about.
